Movin' Out

So I promised to write a little about my trip to NYC a few weeks ago. I had the most fun time of my life! My friend Bob, as a Christmas gift to me and Maurice, took me to see the final performance of Movin' Out on Broadway on December 11. We flew out of Rochester about 10:30 that morning, and arrived in Newark about 11:30. Bob's friend Randy was waiting there to pick us up and drive us into Manhattan. We had time to walk around a little and eat lunch before the show.

The show was fantastic! There was so much crazy energy........probably more than usual given it was the last performance EVER on Broadway. Randy had even better seats than Bob and I, like 5th row or something. Moreover, he was just 2 rows in front of Billy Joel. You heard me right! Billy Joel and Twyla Thwarp (who had the idea for the show in the first place) were both at the show. Billy Joel (it seems wrong to separate the names) got up and played/sang 2 songs after the show. He was amazing! I had heard he wasn't sounding that good lately. Let me tell you: NOT TRUE! Even the cast of the show were grabbing their cameras to take pictures. Incredible!
After the show, Bob and I got to go to the cast party at B.B. King's. We got to hang with the cast and crew of the show and eat all their fabulous food (let's not forget the open bar!). Mostly Bob and I just sat around trying to identify who was who in real life. It can get kind of tricky when the stage makeup comes off! We though this one chick was one of the lead dancers, but it turns out she was her understudy. This picture is with Michael Cavanaugh, the guy who plays the Billy Joel part. He's friends with Bob which is how this whole thing happened in the first place. It sure is nice to know poeple who know people! After the cast party Bob and I hung out in Manhattan for a while....we saw the tree at Rockefeller Center, saw the window displays at Saks, ate dessert at Carnegie Deli (yes, I brought home cheesecake for Maurice) and just had a great time. We finally took the train back to Newark at around 1:00 a.m. and hung out at the airport until our flight left at 6:30. We got back to Rochester at 7:45, and I got home just in time to take Isaac to preschool! A whirlwind of a trip, but so much fun!

Today is one of those yucky winter Rochester days. It's been snowing off and on all day. I usually don't get sick of the snow until after the new year, but we don't usually have that much before Christmas. Every year it's the same question: Will we have a white Christmas? It could not snow another bit and we'd still have a white Christmas this year. I feel like I haven't seen green in years! I guess we're paying now for our beautiful summer. We had a great weekend, though. Friday was our ten year anniversary. Can't believe we made it! Our friends the Jenkins' took the boys for the weekend which gave Maurice and I some much needed alone time. We got to sleep in, go to the movies, finish our shopping, and sleep some more. Maurice even took Sunday off. We were very happy to see the boys on Sunday afternoon. They're having so much fun with the Christmas season. They love driving around looking at all the lights, and Isaac especially doesn't mind the snow. He loves playing in the snow....he learned how to make snowballs this weekend. Watch out world!

I can't believe it's been 2 weeks since I last posted! Oh well, I'll try to get you caught up. I guess December has been one big blur so far of rehearsals, teaching, meetings, and the occasional party. There has been something going on every day and night for at least one of us in the family. I can't wait until after Christmas! We're actually having a very fun Christmas season. The boys are at a very fun age, although Isaac has realized that Santa isn't real. I told him we can still pretend. I don't want him ruining it for other girls and boys. Maurice came home early from work one day to put lights on the house and put up the Christmas tree. We just have a small one on top of the piano because we're afraid Timmy will pull over a bigger one on the ground. He pulls up on everything these days. Isaac is very into the whole Christmas thing. We're going out later today to buy a gift for one of his preschool friends. He's so excited! I'm pretty much done with my shopping. It's easy when the list is small! I went to New York City on Sunday to see the last performance of Movin' Out on Broadway. I'll write more about that later when I can post some pictures. That's all for now!
